Making life Meaningful

"Let us be silent, that we may hear the whispers of the gods."
                                                                                                - Ralph Waldo Emerson

"What is the purpose of life?” -  We don’t know.

“How long is the journey?”    -  We don’t know.

“What is the destination of this journey?” - we don’t know either.

So, in the face of these major uncertainties, it’s wise to enjoy every moment (of course,) without hurting others..!! This is one convincing approach to life. However it gives way to another set of issues. When we focus upon our own enjoyment, it might creat discomfort to others. It might lead us to shuttling amongst different objects of pleasure. It might make us instinct driven and drift us to the level of animalhood. Further, dependance upon sensual
pleasures turns out to be the major cause of pain and unhappiness in life. 'Feeling Good' is common with both the terms, 'Joy and the 'Pleasure'. If we want to refine our terms, we need to understand the difference between 'Joy' and 'Pleasure'.

When we 'feel good' with the association of our Senses, this 'feeling good' is called 'Pleasure' which is known for creating other problems. The approach of finding happiness this way is often self-centered. On the other hand, the happiness derived without involving sense organs is called 'Joy'.

Feeling good as you guide an old man to make him cross the road, is Joy. Deriving happiness from creating a piece of art, is a Joy. With Pleasure, the source of happiness remains outward. Joy arises from within.

The kind of spirituality I value is one in which you get great joy out of contributing to life, not just sitting and meditating, although meditation is certainly valuable. But from the meditation, from the resulting consciousness, I would like to see people in action creating the world that they want to live in.

- Marshall Rosenberg

"Joyful people earn wisdom and inner peace. Each time they face a new challenge, they learn. They grow. And they deepen their understanding of the divine plan of the Universe."

--Salle Merrill Redfield

Here is the secret of 'meaning of life'.  If you are able to find out  -

"What generates 'Joy' from within yourself?"
"What is it that you can do better than others can do?"
"What is it, where you don't need appreciation or reward from others ?"
"What is it, where you don't  notice the duration of time spent as you do it ?"

If you find this field or subject, know that this is the 'Purpose of your Life' !! This is the field where you can excell. This is the subject where your contribution will make the world a better place.

You will agree with me that we get derailed often from the plan we have chalked out for our holistic and poised living. So, take a break - ask yourself, 'Do you enjoy life?'
Introspect. This breaks are important to take stock of the direction of our life and guide it towards achieving joyous life. Through introspection we can know whether we are running after pleasures or we are following Joy ?

Introspection is a mechanism to analyze our inner trends, the transactions and state of mind and to evolve perceptions that can enable him attain his desired way of living . Evolving a plan to develop potentials and achieving balanced development is the first step; periodical introspecton is the next.
